Inclusive Fitness
“In my life I have faced many battles, and many
challenges. Key to overcoming these has been determination, belief and
hard work. They said I’d never walk again, and I completed the
marathon. I did that through hard work, working at facilities like this.
And I’m still in great shape.
“We need more fitness facilities like these that
everybody can use, and we need to encourage people to use them. That’s
what the IFI is about – health and fitness for everybody.”

The Inclusive Fitness Initiative (IFI) has been in
operation since 2001, receiving in total £6million from the Sport
England Lottery Fund. The IFI operates around five key principles:
- Accessible facilities
- Inclusive fitness equipment
- Staff with appropriate training and skills
- Appropriate, inclusive marketing strategies
- The development of alternative inclusive sporting opportunities
The combination of these elements ensures that the
IFI creates not only accessible facilities, but inclusive
environments.
